The Medical Unit is located on the ground floor of the Hamilton Hospital. The unit contains 23 beds including six (6) sub-acute (rehabilitation). Co-located within the Medical Unit are the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Oncology and Rehabilitation Units. Key staff include:
- Unit Manager
- Associate Nurse Unit Managers
- Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Coordinator
- Clinical Support Nurses
- Practice Development Nurses
The Medical Unit includes eight telemetry beds, which are networked and monitored in ICU, a negative pressure isolation room, as well as two extra large palliative care rooms. Staff utilise information technology to access patients pathology results, clinical guidelines, staff communication and for workload prediction.
There is no restriction on visiting hours. However, staff may restrict visitation when it is in the best interests of the patient or the patient has requested that we limit visitors.
There is no access to food after hours or weekends. The cafeteria is open Monday to Friday from 7.00am till 1.30pm. After this time visitors requiring food may be able to purchase limited supplies from the vending machine located in the cafeteria.
All patients are admitted by a medical practitioner.
