2007 Top of The Town Charity Ball funds new Steriliser
The water-saving Atherton Tangent Gorilla Steriliser has been installed at the Hamilton Base Hospital’s Central Sterilising Supply Department, thanks to the outstanding success of the 2007 Top of the Town Charity Ball.
Members of the Top of the Town committee were pleased to be able to see the steriliser on its first day of operations last week, as an acknowledgement that their efforts had been worthwhile.
Western District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jim Fletcher said the sterilisers at HBH were responsible for the sterilisation of 53,000 items each year, from theatre, as well as hospital wards and medical clinics throughout our region.
“The new steriliser features unique water-savings components, which the TOTT committee were pleased to be able to fund.
The steriliser will reduce water usage from 18 litres per minute, back to one litre per minute – a savings of 31,000 litres each week,” Mr Fletcher said.
The 2007 Top of the Town Charity Ball raised $182,000 which has not only purchased the steriliser, but also an intubating bronchoscope, operating microscope and heat sealer for theatre.
“As a result of this outstanding community support the Health Service has been able to replace outdated equipment with modern efficient equipment to assist us to retain our status as Victorian’s Regional Health Service of the Year,” Mr Fletcher said.
