About us:
Hamilton Base Hospital Operating theatres provide elective surgery Monday to Friday and on call services for emergencies/trauma 365 days a year.
Hamilton is home to 3 general surgeons, an obstetrician/gynaecologist, 2 ENT surgeons, a specialist anaesthetist and 2 dental surgeons; all having a close affiliation with the Hamilton Base Hospital.
We have 2 local gastroenterologists, a Hamilton based cardiologist and a respiratory physician who regularly utilize our services. Some specialty areas are covered by visiting surgeons.
The Operating Suite consists of 2 operating theatres, a sterilizing department, PACU, Pre-admission clinic and Direct Admission.
Approximately 3000 operations are carried out each year. Specialty areas include:
- Orthopaedics
- General Surgery
- Urology
- Bariatric Surgery
- Gynaecology
- Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)
- Ophthalmics
- Gastroenterology
- Orthodontics & Dental surgery
Day and Day of Surgery patients complete a pre-operative assessment prior to their theatre date. On the day of surgery patients are admitted through Direct Admissions where final preparations are completed before transfer to theatre.
Post operative care in the acute area is supported by both ICU and high dependency beds.
Hamilton Base Hospital has close ties with St. Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Flinders University in Adelaide and Deakin University, Geelong. New medical and nursing staff are well supported both clinically and educationally. Theatre staff are encouraged to pursue Post Graduate studies in the theatre specialty area.
