The four-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is co-located with the Medical and Emergency Departments.  The ICU provides a level 2 service in coronary care, high dependency and intensive care services including trauma and complex surgical cases.  It is staffed with specialist nursing personnel.

We recommend only family members visit the patient whilst they are in ICU and only two visitors at a time.  If there is a large family with lots of anticipated phone calls, we ask for one family member to be the spokesperson for the whole family.  Family members can then contact the spokesperson for updates.

Visitors

There is no restriction on visiting hours. We do encourage relatives to go home overnight unless their loved one is critical and unstable. The nursing and medical staff can help advise relatives.

There is a family sitting room with tea/coffe, refrigeration, TV and sofa bed; available for family members to utilise.

There is no access to food after hours or weekends.  The cafeteria is open Monday to Friday from 7.00am till 1.30pm. After this time visitors requiring food may be able to purchase limited supplies from the vending machine located in the cafeteria.

Referral:

All patients are referred from the Emergency Department or other health services.
