What is Diabetes Education?

Clinical care including

  • Individual consultations with review of diabetes management
  • Insulin commencement and stabilisation
  • Group education for the person newly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and their family
  • Supply and maintenance of blood glucose meters, monitoring consumables and insulin delivery equipment
  • Information and commencement of insulin pump therapy
  • Health promotion ie Community talks
  • Counselling
  • Diabetes education in schools
  • Client advocacy
  • Resource person and support for healthcare professionals.
  • In-service education for hospital staff within the region

Outreach clinics:

  • Are held in Penshurst (Penshurst Hospital) every 2 months
  • Coleraine Hospital every 6 weeks
  • Royal Children's Hospital Outreach Clinic is held 3 monthly.

Home visits can be arranged for specific clients if elderly, frail or in some other way find attendance to the consulting rooms difficult.
