Pedalling for patient care
23 January 2007
Local Hamilton identities and Western District Health Service staff will don their bike shorts and sweat it out in front of Gilly’s Coffee Shop on Friday February 2 for the annual Hamilton Base Biker’s Murray to Moyne Rideathon.
The rideathon kicks off at midday and runs through to midnight on February 2 and is the major fundraising event for the Hamilton Base Biker’s who annually take part in the Woody’s Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay. Many local “celebrities” will take their turn and ride stationary bikes for hour-long stints, raising sponsorship for their efforts. Afton Barber, owner of Gilly’s coffee shop is kindly supporting the event by keeping the doors of Gilly’s open for the Rideathon, providing refreshments for weary riders.
The Hamilton Base Bikers are calling on the Hamilton community to come along and support their local politicians, policemen and business owners by throwing in a donation and cheering them on.
WDHS has two teams participating in this year’s Murray to Moyne Cycle Relay the Hamilton Base Bikers and Rouse Rare Rumps. The relay is being held on the 24 and 25 March, involving a 650 km relay from Mildura to Port Fairy within 24 hours. Both teams are riding to raise funds towards equipment for patient care at Hamilton Base Hospital and Penshurst & District Health Service.
