Luncheon with Mrs Palfrey raises funds for WDHS
The members of the Hamilton Base Hospital Ladies Auxiliary have long been tireless supporters of Western District Health Service, raising much-needed funds for the health service. The 2007 fundraising campaign for the auxiliary ladies is off to a flying start with a film luncheon organised for February.
The film “Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont” will be screened as a fundraiser for the Auxiliary on February 16 at the Hamilton Cinema in Brown Street. Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont is a heart-warming tale starring the highly-acclaimed Joan Plowright and newcomer actor Rupert Friend. Fate brings Mrs Palfrey (Joan Plowright) and young writer Ludovic (Rupert Friend) together, with the two newly found friends forging a strong bond, finding that they have a lot more in common with each other than they do with people their own age. HBH Auxiliary president Doris Cross said “ Many of the people who enjoyed our previous film screening of Ladies in Lavender, will love this film. It leaves the viewer with the same feel good feeling as Ladies in Lavender.”
The Film Luncheon is one of the auxiliary’s major fundraising events planned for 2007. Last year the film luncheon helped contribute to the outstanding $6000 donation presented to WDHS by the auxiliary. The donation purchased four wheelchairs for the hospital, which are heavily utilised and located in The Birches, The Grange and the acute wards.
The screening of Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont commences at 10.30am on February 16 and will be followed by a light luncheon prepared by auxiliary members. The film costs $15 and includes film admission, lunch and entry into the raffle. If you would like to come along, please contact auxiliary president Doris Cross on 5572 4281 or secretary Pat Forster on 5572 1214.
