One of Australia’s leading researchers into overweight and obesity is the Guest Speaker for this year’s Handbury Lecture at the Hamilton Base Hospital.
Professor Louise Baur, Professor of Paediatrics and Child Health at the University of Sydney, will address the eighth Handbury Lecture at the HBH Education Centre on Wednesday May 16, on “Obesity, Tackling the Millennium Disease”.
Western District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jim Fletcher said Professor Barr was one of Australia’s leading researchers into overweight and obesity, and was an exceptionally skilled and respected member of the medical profession.
She holds a number of other roles specialising in obesity, particularly paediatric obesity.
Prof Baur is Chair of the Board of Directors of the NSW Centre for Overweight and Obesity, Consultant Paediatrician and Specialist in Clinical Nutrition at the Childrens’ Hospital at Westmead and the Co-Director of Weight Management Services at Westmead.
Mr Fletcher said Professor Baur was recognised internationally for her expertise on paediatric obesity.
“She is co-chair of the International Obesity Taskforce Working Group on Childhood Obesity and co-edited the group’s reports to the World Health Organisation on Childhood Obesity,” he said.
Prof Baur has been keynote speaker for many national and international summits, and has been involved in the publication of more than 130 publications, including two books.
The lecture is open to members of the public who should contact the hospital to ensure seating.
