Hospital Sunday doorknock to help the fight against Bowel Cancer
27 April 2007
The Annual Hospital Sunday Appeal will be raising funds to help in the battle against bowel cancer, the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Victoria.
The WDHS Hospital Sunday Appeal on the weekend of May 5 and 6 is raising funds for a videocolonoscope, an updated colonoscope to replace an older model which is currently used in the Hamilton Base Hospital Theatre.
The cost of the new videocolonoscope will be $33,000.
Colonscopies are regularly performed at WDHS for a variety of reasons; the most common being the early detection of abnormalities of the large bowel.
More than 100 volunteer collectors will knock on doors throughout Hamilton, Dunkeld and Penshurst, and for the first time volunteers will visit residents on farms and living in rural areas throughout the WDHS region.
It is a busy weekend in Hamilton, so if collectors find residents are not at home, they will leave forms which can be returned to the hospital with donations. All donations over $2 are tax deductible, and collectors will provide receipts on request.
People planning to be away for the weekend who may wish to donate to the Appeal can contact the Community Liaison Department at WDHS on 55518231.
Donations can also be directed to areas of the Western District Health Service other than the videocolonoscope if requested by the donor.
In addition, this year the Hospital Sunday Appeal will raise funds through a sausage sizzle for workers at the Hamilton Industrial areas. The lunch will be at the Big Wool Bales on Thursday May 3 at 12pm, at $4 per person. Inquiries to Charlie Gubbins at 55711760.
