WDHS Sets a High Standard
Western District Health Service Aged Care program is celebrating following the re-accreditation of four of its Aged Care facilities following an assessment of each by the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.
Western District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jim Fletcher said, "The Birches and Grange in Hamilton and the Nursing Home and Kolor Lodge at the Penshurst campus all achieved 44 out of 44 outcome standards and have all been re-accredited for the maximum period of three years¨.
A highlight of the assessment was the very complimentary praise of the quality of care provided to our residents across all facilities which is something that all Board, Management, Staff and Community Members can justifiably be very proud to be part of.
Our Coleraine campus which was re-accredited in November last year received similar comments at the time of its assessment¨.
The Aged Care Accreditation Standards comprise 44 expected outcomes assessed against key criteria covering: Health and personal care Residential lifestyle Physical environment and safety Staff and organisation development and management systems
Mr. Fletcher said ¡§each facility was required to demonstrate that they had achieved ongoing improvement for each of the criteria to deliver quality outcomes for residents. The expectation of the accreditation agency is that you continue to make improvements year in year out and it is pleasing that all facilities have been assessed as meeting these expectations¨.
In addition to the accreditation assessment we also put forward five (5) Quality Improvement projects for consideration as Best Practice projects¨.
We were invited to make further presentation by the Assessors on these projects which in itself is an outstanding achievement and a great learning experience for our staff and the Health Service.¨
The outcome for these submissions is not expected to be known for another month or so.¨
