Drought Services forum assists our farm families

A forum to look at ways to support the farming community through the drought attracted more than 100 people who deal with farmers on the frontline.

The Rural Services Forum, coordinated by WDHS Community Services, received positive feedback from the audience, which represented a wide spread of the community who work closely with farmers.

The audience was informed an Exceptional Circumstances application had been completed for consideration and funding for containment paddocks was being pursued.

Presenters shared a desire to assist farmers through the drought, and acknowledged that the stresses could impact on health and mental health of farm families.

Education and support for stock agents dealing with distressed farmers was raised.

The need for a central point to disperse relevant information was a priority that was identified at the forum, according to organiser, Sue Brumby, Director Community Services.

She said in response, the presentations would be posted on the Sustainable Farm Families website www.sustainablefarmfamilies.org.au
