WDHS delivers health education in Glenthompson
4 December 2006
Western District Health Service has responded to a call from the Glenthompson community to deliver health education programs.
Following a survey conducted by the Glenthompson Community Association seeking interest in learning more about health issues, GCA member Sue Giddens approached WDHS to bring health sessions out to the Glenthompson community.
WDHS Sophie Roberts has been working with the GCA to coordinate a series Glenthompson Community Health Sessions, which have been running monthly.
Asthma Educator Ev Thuma conducted a respiratory education session, while Ms Roberts ran a workshop looking at Healthy Eating and How to Read Labels. Community Health Nurse Adrian Calvano will run a Heart Health workshop on Wednesday December 6.
Ms Roberts said that more sessions were planned for 2007 if the current interest is maintained.
She said WDHS and the Glenthompson community had formed a partnership to promote health and wellbeing.
The Health Service organises the health sessions, promotional material and administration, while the Community Association promotes the health education program through the various community newsletters and on noticeboards.
