‘Walking for the 'Heart' of the Community'

Walking on the first Monday in May, has been the annual Heart Week activity selected by Western District Health Service (WDHS) for four consecutive years. WDHS community health nurse, Cathy Armstrong said “It is important to tackle heart disease as part of a person’s daily life and the Heart Foundation is asking people to understand their risk of heart disease and lead healthier lives.”...more>

Western District Health Service Carpenter, Peter Smith raised $1,276 for Leukaemia last week by becoming “Bald and Beautiful” in this year’s World’s Greatest Shave.“I’ve really enjoyed this after initially being quite nervous and wondering just what my bald head would look like. I’m going to need plenty of sunscreen,” Peter said.....more>


Vera has 102 reasons to celebrate

This March, Vera Milburn is turning 102. Being 102 years old certainly hasn’t slowed her down; Vera could run rings around any twenty year old.
Every Thursday, without fail, Vera meets “Thelma”, the Western District Health Service Day Centre Bus outside her front gate. She boards the bus with good friend and neighbour, Eileen Finnegan, where she is transported by Bobby the bus driver to the Allied Health Day Centre at WDHS...more>
