Walkers improve Heart Health and have fun

31 May 2007

The importance of 30 minutes of daily moderate physical activity for Heart Health, was the focus for Heart Week at the Frances Hewett Community Centre.

The co-coordinator of the Hamilton Walkers Tom Trimnell joined with Western District Health Service Community Health Nurse Cathy Armstrong, to raise awareness in the community about the importance of moderate physical activity for Heart Health.

Despite the inclement conditions, the Hamilton walkers donned their bright yellow gear, and set out from Frances Hewett Community Centre to demonstrate that exercise does not have to be arduous and can be a great excuse to catch up with friends.

Mr Trimnell said that everyone is welcome to join in with the Hamilton Walkers. The Walkers timetable is available from the Hamilton Visitor Information Centre. For more details contact co-coordinator of the Hamilton Walkers, Tom Trimnell, on 55724536.

People who are interested in improving their fitness and their Heart Health could also contact the Community Centre, where there are a variety of physical programs available. Newcomers are welcome, according to Ms Armstrong.

“Come and join in, get fitter, feel better and have some fun,” she said.
