Top of the Town raises $170,000 from Top Night Out

16 October 2007

The Top of the Town Charity Ball Committee is pleased to announce that a total of $170,000 has been raised by the committee as a result of the ball.

This has enabled Hamilton Base Hospital to purchase the $107,000 Atherton water-saving Steriliser which was the aim of the ball committee. The outstanding result also means HBH will also purchase an intubating bronchoscope, operating microscope and heat sealer – all for theatre.

WDHS CEO Mr Jim Fletcher said that the top of the Town Charity Ball was a fantastic success receiving overwhelming support from our community, and the funds raised far exceeded any expectations.

“The last Top of the Town was the talk of the town for months. This one will be talked about for years,” he said.

Mr Fletcher said his thanks and congratulations go to the committee members, WDHS Community Liaison and maintenance staff, sponsors, donors, volunteers and guests, for providing Hamilton and the health service with an event “that will be remembered and talked about for its excellence for many years to come”.

“We thought that if the event was able to raise a substantial contribution towards the purchase of the steriliser it would be an outstanding success. With this overwhelming response and support we are now able to purchase more vital theatre equipment to ensure we have modern state of the art equipment essential to the provision of high quality heath care to our community.

“The level of generosity and support that has achieved this outcome speaks volumes for the quality of people we are fortunate to have living in our community, particularly considering the dry seasons we have been facing”, he said.

“Being part of this outstanding successful community function on top of our Statewide Regional Health Service award, is about as good as it gets for a CEO of a health service,” Mr Fletcher said.
