Sustainable Farm Familiesprogram comes to Hamilton
19 August 2008
The award winning program Sustainable Farm Families led by Western District Health Service is running a SFF program in the Hamilton region. The Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society is a key partner in the Hamilton program and is calling on interested local farm families wishing to be involved in this program to contact WDHS.
The program to be held at the P&A Society rooms at Hamilton showgrounds on August 27 & 28 is open to men and women who currently farm and are over 18 years, and will be presented by Stu Willder, WDHS Men’s Health Educator.
This is the only SFF program being run this year and provides an opportunity to participate. The program is free, includes a health assessment and runs for two days. To date, more than 1500 famers across Australia have been involved.
The feedback from the farmers who have participated in the program has been positive. “All farmers have spoken very highly about the program and the impact it had on them, their farm and their family.100 per cent said they would recommend the program to other farmers,” Susan Brumby one of the SFF presenters said.
John and Sally who participated in a previous SFF program, commented that they were very happy with SFF and it might well have saved John’s life
“I was referred for a suspicious mole which was malignant, and have since enhanced our health, de-stressed, improved safety, and reduced our cholesterol. We even got the general store to provide better healthy choice options,” John said.
“The farm isn’t the paddocks, crops and machinery. The farm is you and without you the farm isn’t worth anything.”
Local farming men and women wishing to be involved in the initial two day project to be run in Hamilton please contact Ms Tamara Sharrock at the Frances Hewett Community Service on 55518495 for details and registration.
