Award winning film-maker is guest speaker at Penshurst

An award-winning documentary film-maker will by the guest speaker at the Penshurst and District Health Service Annual Year in Review on September 10 at 7.30pm.
The guest speaker is Richard J. Frankland, a well-known indigenous activist, singer, performer, playwright and author, as well as a film-maker.
Richard first became involved in film production during 1993 when he co-wrote and featured in the award winning documentary Who Killed Malcolm Smith, which focused a case from Richard’s days as a Field Officer/Investigator with the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths In Custody.
Another film based on his experiences as a Field Officer, “No Way to Forget” was screened at the Cannes International Film Festival in 1996, and picked up awards at the AFI awards the same year.
Three years later he wrote and directed Harry’s War which told the story of his uncle, Harry Saunders who in 1942 left Condah Mission to fight the Japanese in Papua New Guinea during the Second World War.
In December 2002 Richard traveled to the Middle East to interview children for a documentary about the impacts of war on family, titled The Innocents.
Richard has also worked in television, as a director for three years working on Blue Heelers, and as a script consultant and director of The Circuit, which has recently screened on SBS.
All community members are invited to the Year in Review, which will be held in the Sheppard Community Health Centre at 146 Cobb St, Penshurst, starting at 7.30pm.
