WDHS Rates Highly with Patients

2 July 2008

This report is completed every 6 months from feedback provided by patients directly to the independent surveyors on their overall care and treatment during their stay in hospital. The survey includes patient feedback on the information provided by Medical, Nursing and Allied Health staff, about the treatment of their medical or surgical condition, discharge from hospital and follow up, management of complaints, the physical environment in relation to privacy, comfort, cleanliness and quality of meals, preadmission assistance and advice and assistance at admission.
Western District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jim Fletcher said “the feedback from patients on their high level of satisfaction across all areas of the service was extremely pleasing and positive. Our overall care index level of 81% was equivalent to the highest rating for our peer group of 23 hospitals and compared very favourably with the peer group average of 77% and statewide average of 78%.”
“Another important outcome from the survey was that 97% of patients reported that they were either very or fairly satisfied with their overall stay in hospital.”
Mr. Fletcher said “the patient satisfaction survey was invaluable as it recognised the dedication and commitment of our staff to providing good care and treatment as well as indicating what we were doing well for our patients and identifying areas where we can make improvements”.
“This is the fourteenth survey over a 7 year period and I am pleased that we have consistently been rated highly by our patients in all surveys to date” he said.
