Hospital Shop volunteers fund theatre equipment
20 July 2007
Hamilton Base Hospital theatre has purchased state-of-the-art laproscopic surgical equipment, thanks to the generosity of the Hospital Shop volunteers.
The Hospital Shop volunteer staff has donated $15,500 through the sales of goods at the Brown St premises, which has been used to acquire an insufflator, equipment used in laparoscopic surgery at HBH. In addition, the donation was used to purchase laparoscopic instruments used in conjunction with the insufflator.
The insufflator is one component of laparoscopic surgery only, the other prime component being the instrumentation.
There is gathering evidence that Western District Health Service had been limited by the fact that there has been only one full set of laparoscopic instruments, according to theatre manager Elizabeth Munro. The purchase of the additional equipment will remedy this situation.
The volunteers were keen to see the equipment, and were grateful to Ms Munro who showed them behind the scenes, and outlined the importance of the insufflator and laparoscopic instruments.
The Hospital Shop is open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and is located in Brown St, near the French St corner.
