New Surgery Equipment thanks to North Hamilton Ladies Auxiliary

July 10, 2009

New ‘fine ear surgery’ instruments will be used for the first time this week by Western District Health Service theatre staff, thanks to the generosity of the North Hamilton Ladies’ Auxiliary. The Auxiliary donated $2,800 to the hospital in April with the funds going towards the purchase of the much needed ear, nose and throat equipment, and a pulse oximeter for the hospital’s Midwifery Unit.

Theatre Manager, Liska Greyling told the ladies when she and Ear, Nose & Throat Specialist, Dr Ann Cass met with them on Monday, “This very delicate equipment enables us to perform procedures on the ear that require precision work in a very small area. We are very excited to have the new equipment and can’t wait to start using it this week. We are now able to undertake more procedures at Western District Health Service and this means that patients won’t have to travel outside the region for the treatment.”Nth Hamilton Ladies Auxiliary

Ms Greyling said “We are so grateful to the ladies for their generosity and we appreciate how much hard work they do to make these things happen. The cost of new and replacement surgical equipment is enormous and donations like this are extremely helpful, making it possible for us to continue to provide a high standard of health care to the people of our district.”

The pulse oximeter being purchased for the Midwifery Unit is used to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood of a patient, and is another much needed addition to patient care equipment in that area.
