WOW!!! HOSPITAL APPEAL- $46,849.00
May 23, 2009
This year’s annual Hospital Sunday Appeal was a resounding success with support as strong as ever, even in these difficult times; yet another demonstration of the community’s commitment to supporting local health services.
The Appeal this year is raising funds for the purchase of a colonoscope, which is used to assist in the early detection of bowel abnormalities such as polyps and cancer and an orthopaedic drill, used in joint surgery for procedures like hip replacements and repairs. The cost of the colonoscope is $36,000, and the orthopaedic drill $30,000 and the purchase of both are now within reach and will proceed.
“This year’s community’s response to the Appeal has been exceptional and the 100 plus volunteers were heartened by the generosity of people across the region”, said Western District Chief Executive Office, Jim Fletcher.
“The appeal tally to date is $46,249.00, with postal donations still rolling in and has reached heights above our expectations for this year. I want to sincerely congratulate everyone who participated in the event and thank all our regular volunteers and those who took part as new volunteers this year. We again appreciate the assistance from the Standing Tall Program, providing student volunteers from Baimbridge College, and the continued support from The Hamilton and Alexandra College students.”
“Money is still coming in from those who were not at home when volunteers knocked on their door . Donation slips and reply-paid envelopes were left in mailboxes and we always have a very good response to this with people sending donations in over the following weeks”.
WDHS encourages people who were missed by collectors to take advantage of this option, and anyone who was not contacted and would like to make a donation can do so at the Hamilton Base Hospital reception.
All donations over $2 are fully tax-deductible and receipts will be issued. Donations to the Appeal may also be directed to a health service area of choice, such as Penshurst or Coleraine Hospitals if preferred.
