What changes will take place?

The scope of works will be based on the 2004 Master Plan and will include:

  • A major redesign of Home 3 to ensure the safe care of residents with high care needs.
  • Building of a new 7 bed wing
  • A new Kitchen
  • Expansion of acitivity space for Residents
  • Increased storage and covered entrance

The design has been developed through consultation with The Grange user groups and coordinated through the WDHS executive. Development will be staged to ensure bed numbers and resident care is maintained.

This redevelopment will address 3 key priorities:
1.         The need for additional beds in the district
2.         Changing resident care needs
3.         Operational functionality

Home 3 is being redesigned as a response to the increased numbers of residents with higher care needs. The current rooms were constructed at a time when residents were far less dependent. They now require significant redevelopment to suit the needs of residents with more complex needs.
The most significant operational and operational functionality issue is the main kitchen. The current kitchen is too small, and its position in the facility means it receives deliveries through the front entrance. The new kitchen will have more space, natural light, new equipment, a covered walkway entrance and will be located to Home 3.
The exterior of Home 3 will remain largely unchanged with the current door and windows retained in appearance.
The kitchen relocation will result in increased storage space, a new staff base, office space, increased activity and specialist therapy space and a hairdressing room.
