Fourth gold award for WDHS Annual Report
26 June 2007

Western District Health Service received a gold award from the Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) for its 2006 Annual Report.

This is the fourth consecutive year that WDHS has attained the gold award for its annual report, a notable achievement, particularly considering there were only two Health Care agencies from Australia and New Zealand presented with the prestigious award.

The WDHS Annual Report was one of 42 Reports from over 400 submitted for adjudication, that were judged as having achieved a ‘gold’ standard.

The award was announced at the prestigious ARA Awards Presentation Dinner at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne, on June 7, with WDHS collecting gold alongside organisations such as BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto and Wesfarmers.

The ARA awards were established in 1951 to improve the standards of corporate reporting in Australia, and since then have contributed to the improvement of reporting, and recognized excellence in reporting.

ARA objectives are to promote the publication of informative and factual reports, encourage effective communication of financial and business information and to create public awareness of the purpose, function and achievements of the organisation.

Entrants in the annual awards include a diverse range of organisations, from small not-for-profits to large corporations such as Boral Ltd and Australia Post. The WDHS report was produced by the WDHS Community Liaison Department and was highly regarded by the judges.

WDHS Chief Executive Officer Jim Fletcher said that compiling the annual report to reach our desired standard, as well as the “gold” standard of the ARA, required a great deal of skill and input from staff across all WDHS programs, and the achievement was a team effort.

“To win a gold award in four consecutive years is an outstanding achievement for WDHS,” he said.
