Generous donation purchases endoscopic equipment for WDHS

The operating theatre at Hamilton Base Hospital has benefited from the generosity of Bob Henderson, who has donated $28,960 to purchase an Olympus Video Processor and Light Source for Endoscopic surgery.
Endoscopy allows physicians to examine and inspect the interior cavities of the body through an endoscope.
Theatre manager Elizabeth Munro explained to Mr Henderson when he visited theatre to see the equipment first-hand, that an endoscope was a device using fibre optics and powerful lens systems to provide lighting and visualization of interior investigation.
“Endoscopes are used in conjunction with a camera or video recorder to document images of the inside interior or chronicle an endoscopic procedure,” she said.
Western District Health Service Chief Executive Officer Jim Fletcher acknowledged Mr Henderson’s generosity to the Health Service. He said that Mr Henderson’s donations through the year had enabled WDHS to purchase a Digital Slit Lamp for opthalmology, Wound Vac machine, InfaCare Centre for obstetrics and recently a piano for the Chapel.
“We are fortunate at WDHS, that our work is supported by the generosity of members of our community,” he said.
“Donations such as this ensure that WDHS maintains its reputation as a leading regional health service,” Mr Fletcher said.
