Cha Cha and rumba for a healthy heart
1 May 2008
It’s more than good timing that the Australian Dance Week coincides with Healthy Heart Week, according to Western District Health Service Go for your Life Project Officer Fran Patterson.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate that one can lead to the other,” she said.
In partnership with the Glenelg Southern Grampians Primary Care Partnerships and Southern Grampians Shire, WDHS is hosting a series of “come and try” dance workshops, to showcase the opportunities to use dance as an option for exercise, and where those options are available in the community.
Ms Patterson has put together the dance workshops with Elise Armitage from GSGPCP, and Sardi Bennet and Rhonda Ward from the Shire.
The dance workshops will be held over two sessions on Monday May 5, from 12pm to 2pm and 5.30pm to 7.50pm at the Hamilton PAC. Several 30-minute workshops of different styles will be presented during these times with an opportunity to try a variety of dance styles over each timeslot.
Line Dancing, Scottish Country Dancing, Latin, Tap/Jazz, Fusion, Old Time Dance, Rock and Roll and Bellydancing will all be available to try. All workshops will be conducted by instructors from the appropriate styles.
It is a free event, primarily aimed at adults. Healthy food and drinks will be provided at each session for participants.
