Six Gold Awards in a Row for Western District Health Service
July 10, 2009
Australasian Reporting Awards Inc presented Western District Health Service with a Gold Award for its 2008 Annual Report for the sixth consecutive year at the annual ARA Awards Presentation Dinner held at Crown Towers Hotel in Melbourne on 4 June.
The evening was attended by senior executives of major corporate, government and not-for-profit organisations from around Australia and New Zealand.
Community Liaison Manager, Kerry Martin accepted the Award on behalf of the organisation and said that it was very satisfying to have acknowledgement at such a level for the many hours of hard work devoted to the report by a large team of staff employed across the organisation.
Arthur Delbridge, Chair of the ARA Awards Committee said the quality of the annual reports submitted for the Awards this year was significantly higher than in previous years. “To win a Gold Award a report has to be scored highly by more than ten reviewers over the different stages of the adjudication process. We took a very hard look at each nominated report to make sure it more than satisfied the ARA Criteria.”
To receive a Gold Award, a report must satisfy all of the ARA Criteria and be exceptional in several areas. The Criteria are based on world best practice in annual reporting and are updated regularly to respond to changing stakeholder expectations and statutory requirements.
The ARA Awards, introduced almost 60 years ago to help improve the quality of annual reports, are largely a benchmarking activity rather than a competition.
Arthur Delbridge said, “That 48 organisations received Gold Awards and 90 others received Silver Awards indicates that many organisations in Australia and New Zealand are very concerned about the quality of their reporting, and that the quality of the best reports in Australia and New Zealand is very high by world standards.” Western District Health Service Chief Executive Officer, Jim Fletcher said …..
