‘Heart Disease - number one killer of Australian women’
21 April, 2011
‘Women are at risk of heart disease too – in fact, heart disease is the number one killer of Australian women. Heart Week is Sunday 1st May to Saturday 7th May 2011 and Western District Health Service (WDHS) has chosen walking as its activity for the week. Heart Week is all about empowering women and the Heart Foundation is asking women to ‘understand their risk of heart disease and lead healthier lives ’
WDHS Community Health Nurse, Cathy Armstrong said “it is important to tackle heart disease as part of our daily lives, which for many is a family issue”. Ms Armstrong has combined her efforts with the Hamilton Walkers and Dunkeld Consolidated School / Kindergarten to provide a walking activity during Heart week to promote physical activity as an achievable every day event women can enjoy, and is important for Heart Health.
A walk is organised on Monday, May 2nd, which will bring together a wide range of age groups to reinforce the message that exercise can include all family members. WDHS, Hamilton Walkers and Dunkeld Consolidated School / Kindergarten invite all members of the Dunkeld Consolidated School / Kindergarten and Dunkeld community to participate in a walk with ‘Hamilton Walkers’ Monday 2nd May departing at departing at 9:30am from Dunkeld Consolidated School, Victoria Valley Road Dunkeld to be followed by a ‘Fruit’ Morning Tea.
