Australia's Healthy Weight Week workshops will be held at the Shepherd Centre, Penshurst & District Health Service, on Wednesday 20th January from 3pm till 4pm (includes afternoon tea), and on Thursday 21st January from 7pm till 8pm (followed by supper).

The workshops aim to help separate fact from fiction when it comes to nutrition and weight loss, assist participants in assessing the health risks associated with being overweight and offer strategies to help achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

A healthy afternoon tea and supper will also be offered and the recipes used will be made available to the participants.

The guest speaker at these workshops will be Reena Soniassy, an Accredited Practising Dietitian who is part of the Western District Health Service dietetics team, and visits PDHS every fortnight. Accredited Practising Dietitians (APDs) provide expert nutrition advice for people of all ages and prescribe dietary treatments for many conditions.

"As an APD, I am your diet coach" said Ms Soniassy. "My job is to tailor an eating plan to your lifestyle and to support and motivate you to make changes for life."

"Unfortunately there are many weight loss fads and gimmicks out there, but in reality most people who lose weight from these types of diets regain their lost weight quickly, and can even end up dieting themselves heavier over time. We want to help you get it right. To lose weight, keep it off and be healthy and happy for life," she said.

Nutrition services to PDHS include outpatient consulting and appointments can be made through the hospital reception.

The number of overweight Australians is increasing. Two thirds of adults and one quarter of our children are now overweight and obese.
