School Buddies Visit ADASS

16 December 2010

Western District Health Service’s Adult Day Activity and Support Services (ADASS) clients visit their ‘school buddies’ at Baimbridge College once each term, an activity that has become an enjoyable and meaningful time for both the clients and the students.
The age gap between the two groups disappears amongst games, singing, and lots of chatter about each person’s experience from their own life.
During their recent Christmas party visit, students listened to stories about the kinds of gifts clients received for Christmas when they were children. Each client’s story is different and truly unbelievable to a younger generation living in a very different modern world.
The Christmas party visit concluded with all the children and clients joining together to sing Christmas carols, followed by an exchange of handmade gifts. There were smiling happy faces all around.
“This was a warming experience, enjoyed by everyone, and we’re looking forward to seeing our school buddies again next year”, said WDHS ADASS Co-ordinator, Brenda Uebergang.
“ADASS clients look forward to seeing their buddies and it is wonderful to watch the interaction between them.”
