December 17, 2009

Hamilton Base Hospital will be awash with celebrities this 21st of December as the Great Vic Trek for Yooralla rolls into town.
More known for their prowess in the pool, on the footy oval or even the cricket pitch, celebrities including Dean Jones, Allan Border, David Boon, Kevin Sheedy, Michael Klim, Brad Johnson, Matthew Richardson, Glenn Archer, Danny Frawley, Marc Murphy, Giann Rooney, and Tony Shaw will be hopping on their bikes for a 21 day trek around Victoria to raise vital funds and awareness for Yooralla.

The ride kicks off in Melbourne on 6 December, and will arrive at the Hamilton Base Hospital on Monday 21 December in time for a 12 noon barbeque lunch to which all staff and members of the community are invited.

The tour will raise much needed funds for Yooralla, a disability service provider assisting more than 30,000 Victorians each year.
Event sponsor and former cricketing great, Dean Jones, said he was shocked to learn that as many as 1 in 5 Victorians live with a disability. “Every dollar helps Yooralla to continue to provide Victorians living with disabilities, the support and services they need” he said.

Western District Health Service CEO Jim Fletcher said he was delighted to be given the opportunity of hosting the riders on their tour and encouraged the community to show their support at a welcome barbeque.
“For a gold coin donation, this is a terrific opportunity to come and meet some pretty inspiring sports-people, and support a really worthy cause at the same time,” said Mr Fletcher.

Trek participants will finish their 1800km journey with a victory lap of the MCG on Sunday 27 December; Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test Match.
