Our Nurses (top)

It is mandatory for all Registered Nurses to annually submit notification of renewal of their registration with the Nurses’ Board of Victoria. This indicates that they are eligible to continue practising as a nurse. In addition to mandatory registration, nurses are required to participate in a range of competency programs and professional development based on their area of work and the specialised skills needed.

Our Doctors (top)

All doctors employed by or contracted to Western District Health Service must meet all credentialling requirements. The Clinical Credentialling Committee is established as a sub-committee of the Board of Directors, in accordance with the organisation’s By Laws. Prior to the appointment of any doctors, the Clinical Credentialling Committee assesses their basic and postgraduate qualifications, medical registration, indemnity insurance and their experience to work in a particular field.

Following this procedure, the Medical Appointments Advisory Committee meets to determine the suitability of these doctors for appointment to WDHS, based on their qualifications and the service needs of the organisation. While appointments may be for up to five years, registration, indemnity insurance and continuing medical education are reviewed each year by the Director of Medical Services. It is a requirement that doctors maintain clinical knowledge and skills through ongoing professional development.

WDHS supports continuing medical education for medical staff at all levels. There are regular educational activities in-house and the Education Centre facilities are available for face-to-face and video conferencing education.

Resident Medical Officers (RMO's) (top)

Their qualifications are subject to approval by the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria, and their rotations are prescribed by the Postgraduate Medical Foundation of Victoria. During the past year RMO numbers were increased from seven to ten to provide safer working hours and better medical coverage for patients.
